About us !

Krav Maga Fiji offers world class self defense and personal safety Instructions. We are the only reality based self defense training center in the country and are ranked as a top tier Combative's & Krav Maga school in the World.

Our Senior Chief Instructor Russ Rasiga is Grand Master Dan 6 and is respected within the Krav Maga & Combative's community with practitioners from all over the world coming to train with us in Fiji.
We offer various classes which includes Muay Thai Kickboxing, Krav Maga, Combative's, MMA, Jiu jitsu, Baton and Knife Fighting Concept but our sole mission is to focus towards Self defence and not sports. Our belief is that in order to survive we have to have an understanding on natural human reaction, understand how the human body respond under duress and understanding on how an attacker fights. eg if you do not understand how dangerous a blade can be ? if you do not train with knives to understand the different angles, the various types of blades and what kind of problems in can present; your knowledge will be limited. Learning the technique is only a small percentage of self defence, at our school you learn about the human anatomy, psychology, human behavior and how to deal with the stress that comes with self defence;  to be able to really defend yourself from an attack, especially from a motivated attacker – you’ll need to learn their style of fighting. For each style of fight is a language of its own. We believe that you cannot defeat a problem that you don't understand and for that we will NOT limit you or your arsenal of weapons. The more tricks you have under your sleeve, the less likely you will freeze in a fight. At our school you will become a strong and effective fighter.

Our History

2013

Starting off

our first official Krav Maga/Self-Defence Class was held at Metro Gym on January 2013.

2014

USP GYM

After Metro Fitness Gym we started to run our classes out of the USP Gym in Laucala.

2015

Our First Gym

Our first gym was at the old Laucala Bay Secondary school hall. we leased the space for 12 months before it was demolished. We ran classes at the School hall from September 2015 to September 2016.

2016

Bergengren Hall

Once our lease was over, we went back to running classes at halls and squash courts. we ran classes here for about 4 months.

2017

YMCA GYM & VICTORIA COURTS

In January 2017 we moved our classes to the YMCA kindergarten. We ran our open classes, kids and teens class at YMCA for about 2 and half years. during the day we would hold classes at the Victoria Squash court and afternoons classes were held at the old YMCA kindergarten.

2019

CITY COMBAT GYM

After many years of searching, we finally found a space to rent out and have as our head quarters. Russ Tactics & Krav Maga Fiji Combative's academy was opened in August 4th 2019 and so far we have been here for 3 years.

Frequently Asked Questions - KRAV MAGA

What is Krav Maga ?

'Krav' meaning 'Contact' and 'Maga' meaning Combat. Krav Maga (pronounced “krahv mahGAH”) in Hebrew is a Military self-defense and fight system developed for the IDF. Krav Maga is an effective, modern, and dynamic self-defense and fighting system. It is designed to be practical and intuitive for people of any age, shape, or size. The techniques expand on your natural instincts to develop skills quickly and effectively, while enabling you to address attacks under any scenario. You will learn how to defend yourself and your loved ones, while gaining increased awareness and instinctive reflexes.

Why Krav Maga Fiji ?

At KMFJ, we believe in providing the best in self-defense training, focusing on realistic scenarios with high-quality instruction and attention. Our classes are serious, but ego-free, safe, and fun. Krav Maga Fiji is your best source of authentic self defence training. All of our instructors are trained, certified, and professional, with extensive experience.

Training in Krav Maga

No experience is necessary to begin Krav Maga. In the beginning, you will learn basic stances, striking, techniques for falling and getting up safely, and basic defenses against common attacks including chokes and headlocks. In addition to learning how to deal with an attack, you will train to perform better under stress and learn awareness and prevention techniques that will help keep you from getting into problematic situations. After mastering the basics, advanced students will train to deal with multiple simultaneous attackers, weapons, complicated situations, and learn advanced combative and weapon techniques (standing up or on the ground).

 Where do I Begin ?

For beginners, Krav Maga P-1 classes(Open Class)  are the perfect class to take for your first class in Krav Maga. We rotate through the material constantly and do not have a set rotation or a set “introductory class”. We find that most students cover and practice all of the material sufficiently after about 4 months or 35 classes to be ready for the P1-to-P2 test. We know it’s sometimes intense to join in on an ongoing class, but this is a part of the training. Self-defense means training under intense and unsettling circumstances. If you want to be able to react calmly during the unexpected, it’s critical that you train under stress. Join in, and do your best. All ages, shapes, and sizes can learn life saving skills from Krav Maga training.

Why should I train in Krav Maga ?

‘Part of the Krav Maga philosophy is that the best way to win a fight is not to get into a fight. So we spend a lot of time figuring out how do you de-escalate situations and win through avoidance of conflict,’  When conflict is unavoidable, Krav Maga teaches how to use everything at your disposal to neutralize a threat while remaining calm under pressure.”

How long until I am good ?

Most students progress to their first test within 3-4 months, and during this progression grow to become much more capable and aggressive when necessary. Our grading system is not based on how long you train but based on how well you fight and progress daily, you will be assessed on skills (under stress), stamina and strength. students must demonstrate overall balance.

What is the difference between Krav Maga and Traditional Martial Arts ?

Traditional martial arts may offer a host of benefits but are not optimal for fighting. Self Defence and traditional martial arts are 2 different subjects and most confuse the 2, especially in Fiji.
Krav Maga is self defense – defined as a combatant taking aggressive action against you; forcing you to respond. Often, this includes being taken by surprise and learning to defend from an initial “position of disadvantage” and moving to a “position of advantage” to neutralize the threat.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt under Krav Maga Fiji ?

Minimum 2 years of hard training. Basic requirement - 10 KM Run, 10 KM Pack march with 50 KG backpack. 200 Push ups (only 3 rests), 100 burpees (only 1 rest), 30 dead weight Pull ups, 100 sit-ups (only 1 rest). Then Survive multiple sparring rounds and Self defence scenario under duress.
There are many schools that give out black belts after only months of training. these are called black belt factories. we are not one of those schools. We believe that Belts must be earned.
